Your Pastor’s Epistle

Dear Church Family,

This is the “golden age” of Community Presbyterian Church. From worship to youth ministry to mission, God has blessed us with incredible opportunities! It is our desire for all our members to be active in the work and worship of our church.

Community had a very successful and spiritual GET CONNECTED event at the end of August. However, we missed some of you and we want to get connected and stay connected with all of our church family.

I am very excited that we have a group of dedicated and devoted members who want to become better acquainted with their church family. I’m calling them shepherds because they will be venturing out to see how Community can help and get closer to our members.

Our shepherds will be contacting everyone at the end of October and during the month of November so that we can get to know you better. I want you to share your ideas of what you like and where we can improve. This will also give us the opportunity to gather histories and/or special memories your family may have about Community.

We are about to embark on an exciting adventure and we look forward to sharing your hopes and dreams!

In the Lord’s Service,
Gabe

DAISY’S DIARY

Lord of this November Morning
I should like to lose all hint of sadness
That autumn brings

For thousands of years
This was a time
Of pleasant fruitfulness for all; Of harvest gathered in,
Of apples and pears stored up for winter, Of thatching houses
And piling up the wood for December fires.

But now the summer heat
Has cooled down to a memory.
The season slides gently into some grey skies and
some bare trees, Reminders not of harvest
But of the passing nature of all life.

Before the routines of winter close around us
There is time for starting things,
Time to think about people we should like to know better,
Time for books we should like to read,
Neighbors we have meant to invite into homes but never have.
Time for people we’ve meant to help.
And in this change of the year

There is time to wonder about the possibility of heaven,
And the need for hope;
There is time to take our parched souls to the waters of your love

Lord of this November morning
Help us to realize
That we have something utterly unique
To offer everyone we meet,
But Help us to remember
That they have as well.
Let this be a day of awaking for us
To the possibilities of our lives in Christ.

(Prayer—Adapted from “Lord of the Season” by Peter Firth)

Blessings,
Daisy

PEYTON'S PONDERINGS

The season will be approaching us soon when we have lots of opportunities for treasure, time and talent donations. We will be having our Consecration Sunday when we make our estimate of giving cards for the coming year. Most of us will do our part.

Some of us will be, individually or as families, ringing bells for the Salvation Army down in front of the Publix from November 20th thru the 24th. Some of us will walk in the Crop walk on November 15th. A lot more of us will be donating so much a mile to the walkers to fight world hunger. Children and Youth have been collecting food for Thanksgiving Baskets for local needy families and after walking on November 15th a bunch of us will be packing and delivering that food . Then on December 6th we will have one of our semi-annual food drives for Mission House and Beam. Some among our women will be involved in a special Christmas Stocking sewing project. Some of those and others will be raising money for blankets for those who need their warmth and protection.

If you have not yet found a place for your time, talent, or treasure offering during this coming season that resonates with you, I suppose you can always buy your spouse a new set of cookware, dishes or furniture and donate the old to OUR FATHER'S HOUSE WARES. We are at our very busiest this time of year and we even pick it up!

Shalom and Agape,
Peyton

SCHOOL NEWS

We are thankful to be your partners in ministry, often sharing a mission opportunity with the CPC family. Helping fill B.E.A.M. boxes, donating furniture to Our Father’s Housewares, contributing food items to Thanksgiving baskets, making Christmas stockings for needy children and gathering items to fill them are examples of ways school and church work together to multiply our Christian service. Thank you for including us. These events are experiences in Service Learning that help us all understand and put into practice the, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” one of the two scripture verses on which our school philosophy is based.

Please help US minister to families by doing some simple things as you shop, cook, eat and drink during the holiday season. Bring us any aluminum pop tops and plastic lids for Ronald McDonald House. A gallon of pop tops or lids generates enough money to provide a child with a chemo treatment. Support our Scholarship Fund by visiting the customer service desk at Target and registering CPPK as your school of choice for your Target charge card. Once you register, every time you use your Target charge our school will be credited with a percentage of the sale. Clip and save us the BoxTops in Education coupons found on General Mills products. We receive 10 cents per coupon and deposit the funds to the Scholarship Fund. Bring us your used printer cartridges to recycle. Receptacles for items we collect are located in the Parent Center in our foyer. Thank you for your help!

Regardless of the material wealth we individually possess, we are richly blessed through God’s grace. He gives us His promises and is true to fulfill them. He places us in community to experience love, fellowship, worship and work. When we look for His bounty, we see and experience it. It is good to give and receive, providing the donor and the recipient an opportunity to express thanks.

Blessings,

Barbara

November Events

AN INVITATION FROM YOUR
FINANCE COMMITTEE

Each year our church engages in a stewardship event. Once again this year we are going to celebrate Consecration Sunday. On November 15th, we will gather for worship in the sanctuary for all three services because a catered meal will be waiting for us in the Fellowship Hall: the Celebration Brunch. We will also be blessed with a guest preacher on that Sunday; the Rev. Joe
Albright will share the gospel from his own perspective. Please make every effort to attend this important day of worship.

Because it is a catered meal, we need your reservations!

As always, you may communicate with the church office in one of three ways: call us at 249-8698, email us at cpcab@cpcab.org, or place a reservation form in the offering plate on the Sabbath day. Please indicate which brunch you will attending (9:30, 10:45 or high noon) and how many folks in your family will attend.

Attention High School Seniors Who
Are Members of CPC

Hard copies of the 2010 Harvey Scholarship application for Seniors are available in the church office. Also, the application may be downloaded from our website in the College section. The due date for applications is April 19, 2010. Click here to download the application.

Mark Your Calendars!!

Invite your friends! Invite your neighbors! Tell them all that CPC has the perfect way to “get in the mood” for the Christmas Season! An adult Christmas play will be performed on Sunday evening, December 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary, and will be the first of the Season of Advent Sunday night performances. The title is Preparing for Christmas 2009, and it is a comedy/drama about the citizens of Warmwater Florida, who are once again gearing up for another holiday season full of activities and family traditions. People are already working hard to rehearse and plan for this to be a wonderful evening of laughter and fellowship, and there will also be refreshments to follow in the fellowship hall. And it’s all FREE! What better way to kick off your own preparations for Christmas? So make plans, and get there early to get a good seat!

Has this ever happened to you?

“Good Morning, … uhh …”

(Yikes, I can’t believe I’ve forgotten their name)

Take heart, we are hoping to solve your dilemma. Name badges are coming to a location near you! Studies show that name badges offer the benefit of being an icebreaker as well as relieving us the burden of remembering someone’s name and the associated embarrassment. We are in the process of making name badges for all of our church family. If you already have one, please start wearing it on November 15th If you have more than one, please turn extras into the ushers on that day and we will recycle them.
